Ideas for lightening up a living room with dark brown leather furniture?

Posted on February 23rd, 2010 by admin

Hi! We recently bought dark brown leather living room furniture and I need ideas for how to use accents and what kind of accent pieces to lighten up the room. The room doesn’t get alot of natural light. My walls are painted a sand color. I am more traditional or transitional in my decorating style. Also any online sources for home accent pieces? I also need an online source for decorative pillow covers so I can use my old toss pillows and just put covers on them. Thanks for your help!

Hi!

I would start with simple muslin curtains in natural or an off white or cream. If you can find the curtain panels with a big button on the tabs would be better. Keep curtains open or tied back which will give a more brighter effect and use shades that you can pull at night if you need the privacy. If you are more traditional simple yet elegant is the best way. Try hanging a large mirror as a focal point or use one small wall to hang several small mirrors as a collection. This will reflect light both night and day for a brighter lighter effect. Assecorise with light colored pillows that will blend with brown this should be easy as brown will go pretty much with anything. A mantle full of Iron Stone collection or anything white or off white. Maybe dark candle sticks with white candles.

need sofa, loveseat, (or 2 chairs) bookshelves. they need to to be in good condition .i live in the auglaize county ohio area. waiting for respones.

Try Freecycle.com! I got a free table and chairs from being a member. Also, depending on where you live, in Kenosha, WI people put furniture out on the side of the road that they don’t want anymore and some of it is in good shape.

what color paint would go well with sage green furniture in living room?

Posted on December 11th, 2009 by admin

I am trying to paint my living room i have sage green furniture i am stumped about what color to paint the walls. If someone coould help me i would appreciate it!

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think a lighter gray like "worsted wool" (# 7183) from their SandScapes faux finish collection might look good. And the sand texture would add another interesting element to the room.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they’ll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

I was wanting to rent to own some living room furniture.?

Posted on November 16th, 2009 by admin

I know these places usually rip you off, but I think I am going to have to go this route. I know there are a lot of national chains like Rent A Center and a few others. Does anybody have any recommendations of where I should go? Thank You.

I managed a R-A-C for 4 years when I was a lot younger. You’re right, the mark up on furniture was not too far out of line with other retail stores, especially if you pay it off sooner than the 18 months that was our standard term back then. If they do not have a brand new set in stock, they can usually get you one, either from another store or on their next order. The exception, of course, is if the set or fabric has been discontinued. We had several manufacturers that we used, so there could be a bit of a wait until the new set came in. When it comes to electronics, appliances, etc., stay away from them. You will pay at leasy double what you would pay at a retail store. Hope this helps.

If my living room furniture is mocha and black what color should I paint my walls?

I’m looking for new living room furniture but i have 3 rambunctious dogs. What’s the best fabric to get?

Posted on November 3rd, 2009 by admin

Big dogs! Big harry dogs!

Can’t say it’s the prettiest, but I have microsuede in my den. With a formal living room, just wanted something we could really "live" on! I’ve had it almost 7 years, and it’s really held up extremely well. We have a pup not quite a year old and a 5 year old grandson, so it does get used. It vacuums well, and occasionally I scrub (yeah, scrub!) it with a barely damp (dishwashing soap/water) white flour sack cloth. About a month ago, I sprayed it all over with Tough Stuff aerosol cleaner (Walmart has it), then gave it a good wipe down. Looked like a brand new chair.
So, as much as I’d like new den furniture, I don’t think this set is ever gonna wear our! lol

what are the best name brands of living room furniture? Looking for quality?

Posted on November 2nd, 2009 by admin

What is the absolute best name brand and why do you think so?

Actually, I don’t think Ashley is very good quality. You get what you pay for in the world of furniture. Upholstered pieces should be 8-way hand tied, high density foam and/or down cushions. Fabrics should last a lifetime, too, not fray or pill after a few months. Frames should be solid and straight. Feet should be strong. Check out brands like Harden furniture, Woodmark/Hekman, Bernhardt, Baker, and other designer brands. These are quality American manufacturers with great style, fabrics and warranty. As I said, you get what you pay for. If you prefer to have a sofa that you change out every 5 years, buy something less expensive. If you would rather buy a sofa that will last 20 years, and then you reupholster it, buy an expensive, high quality heirloom piece.
