What good furniture stores are in northern Virginia?

Posted on February 13th, 2010 by admin

I am moving soon, just about all of my current furniture is going to end up at Goodwill (pretty much all I will keep is this computer desk & printer stand). Some of the furniture is over 20 yrs old – I am 27 so I’ve had a lot of it all my life & I am sick of the stuff I have even though it is not falling apart.
Anyways, I have not lived in northern Virginia long enough to really know where good furniture stores can be found or what the names even are.
I’ll be living in Fairfax soon after I get out of Falls Church. I am going to be getting a new bedroom, living room & dining room set. Price is not too much of an issue but I want to keep it within reason.

IKEA, BROTHER!!!

How can I stop my cockatoo from destroying all my furniture?

Posted on February 13th, 2010 by admin

I have a 2 years old umbrella cockatoo. He is great. It’s totally incapable of bitting a human being, he is very carefull as to where he "DROPS" (like he would only go on the floor not on a human or any furniture), and he speaks quiet a few words.

But I cant get him to stop chewing all my furniture. I have had him for 4 months now and he has partially destroyed or damage about $9000.00 of furniture, starting with dining room table and chairs, dining room display case, etc…. And now my leather sofas.

If I leave him on the cage he will screams so i can take him out, and when I do, then i have to supervise him at all times because the minute I look away he is bitting something. He knows when I watch him, and 10 seconds after I0 look the other way he starts chewing. Its like a game for him I think. What can i do?

I’m afraid the bird likes to chew, unless you want to cover your entire house in something foul smelling/tasting (or perspex), I suggest a bird playground.
Find a little used area of your home, then decorate with wood, branches, treats, toys, anything you know he likes.
To give you an idea what I mean, here’s a few examples –

I’ve tried to show you a range of different sizes, the important thing is to keep messing with it, change the toys, move stuff about, have fun.

What are the best furniture stores in the Houston, Texas area?

Posted on February 8th, 2010 by admin

I have researched the various furniture stores in the Houston, Texas area and Rooms To Go and Ashley Furniture had furniture I liked for prices I could afford. However, even though BBB gives the stores fairly good ratings, consumer reviews are not good. The BBB is not reporting any complaints against Star Furniture but the store prices are a little beyond my budget as is the case with Gallery. Any suggestions would be a great help?

We found The Room Store to be pretty good. We bought a table elsewhere and then found it for WAY less at The Room Store, so we bought our leather couches there.

What paint colors go with light oak furniture in a nursery?

Posted on February 3rd, 2010 by admin

I just found and bought a light oak furniture set for the babies room. I was planning on dark cherry, and I had an entire room picked out (brown and aqua). When the price of the light oak set was too good to turn down, I bought that instead. Now my whole room has to change, and I’m panicking. I always get dark furniture, now I have really light furniture with a yellow tone (not my strong suit). What wall colors would make me love this nursery again? Help!

Your brown and aqua will still work.

How do people in NYC move furniture without a car?

Posted on February 1st, 2010 by admin

For example, when we move to Manhattan this summer, we may want to buy furniture items off Craigslist – but we’re also planning to give up our cars when we move. Will we have to rent a U-Haul truck just to move what will mostly likely be a cheaper item than the truck rental?

I’ll go a little off-topic.

Give up your cars – but don’t give up your license.

Before it expires, take the written NYS test.

You could decide later to rent a car…or you could decide to move out of NYC. If so, all you’d have to do is take the written test in your new state, not the driving test.

I lived in NYC for years, held my license, kept renewing. Didn’t have a car.

When I moved to NJ, before it expired I took the written test only. Depending on where you live in NJ, it’s virtually mandatory to drive. Naturally not so in NY.

Just something to consider. Whatever you decide – good luck in your new home.

What stores in boston sell furniture that is affordable but not too cheap?

Posted on January 27th, 2010 by admin

I’m looking to buy furniture in Boston that is a step up from IKEA’s prices/quality, but all I’ve found are stores that have nice stuff that is way too expensive, or huge chain stores that are really ugly. Any suggestions for non-modern, low to mid-range furniture stores? I’m especially looking for wooden book cases.

Craigslist is a good resource. Lots of the time when people move out they plan terribly and end up leaving crap all over the place.

Does it have to be wooden? There’s the ContainerStore.com

Good luck!

What do you call furniture that is made out of compressed sawdust?

Posted on January 21st, 2010 by admin

I know that there is a special term for that type of furniture, but I can’t remember what it is. 10 points for the first correct answer.
It’s not called big junk wood. I want serious answers, not absurd names.

Particle board or your right pressed sawdust. Now I pay a little more money and buy real wood. I had a dresser down the basement and the dampness ruined it.

how do I go about finding a major furniture co. to buy the rights to my furniture designs?

Posted on January 17th, 2010 by admin

I have over 100 designs of mirrored covered furniture that has never been seen. I have created other designs that are at market and have never been paid. How do I avoid this mistake again. Can someone please refer me to a honest furniture maker that won’t rip me off.

Did you try getting a patent on your designs?

What is the greatest furniture company in Australia? And then, how much the sales is?

What is the greatest furniture company in Australia? And then, how much the sales is?

IKEA is pretty damn good when it comes to furniture and it’s relatively cheap in comparison to other companies. The sale depends on what furniture.
