Color matching for indoor furniture and walls ?

Posted on February 23rd, 2010 by admin

I started remodelling the interior of my house and I really need your advice ! I bought some new furniture and I don’t know how to paint the walls of the room in order to match that color with the color of the furniture. The sofa and the armchairs I bought are brown, with white and black stripes… and the rest of the furniture is also a dark brown natural wood color. The only think that is a light color of wood is the floor… So, I was wondering… What color can I use to paint the walls to make all the colors match ?

Oh, and one more question… what colors should the curtains be ?

Dude..the walls can be painted in an off-white or very light beige color. That way any furniture you have will be okay. Colored walls are tacky and get boring after a while.

Ideas for lightening up a living room with dark brown leather furniture?

Posted on February 23rd, 2010 by admin

Hi! We recently bought dark brown leather living room furniture and I need ideas for how to use accents and what kind of accent pieces to lighten up the room. The room doesn’t get alot of natural light. My walls are painted a sand color. I am more traditional or transitional in my decorating style. Also any online sources for home accent pieces? I also need an online source for decorative pillow covers so I can use my old toss pillows and just put covers on them. Thanks for your help!

Hi!

I would start with simple muslin curtains in natural or an off white or cream. If you can find the curtain panels with a big button on the tabs would be better. Keep curtains open or tied back which will give a more brighter effect and use shades that you can pull at night if you need the privacy. If you are more traditional simple yet elegant is the best way. Try hanging a large mirror as a focal point or use one small wall to hang several small mirrors as a collection. This will reflect light both night and day for a brighter lighter effect. Assecorise with light colored pillows that will blend with brown this should be easy as brown will go pretty much with anything. A mantle full of Iron Stone collection or anything white or off white. Maybe dark candle sticks with white candles.

Does anyone know of any fine leather furniture stores (sofas etc) in Tampa?

Looking for slightly upscale furniture stores.

Thomasville has many stores throughout the country. They have very nice stuff and a lot of selection. It is pricier than other stores, but it is worth it and it is really nice.

Has anybody bought furniture from Big lots?

Posted on February 15th, 2010 by admin

Such as bedroom furniture or sofas. Is it good quality or not worth the money?I have a whole house to furnish and need everything that you can think of.I’m sick and tired of spending money on things that I have to replace in a couple months.Even a good consignment store in houston would be great. Salvation Army can put outrageous prices on furniture pieces that they have.

YES! I bought my sofa at Big Lots in 2001 & I still use it everyday. It’s quite comfortable & it’s held up well over the years. I am thinking of finally unloading it, but only b/c I want something that better matches my decor (and I hate slipcovers). I don’t regret the purchase at all – it was worth every penny.

The majority of my furniture is from here:

They have pretty great bargains on new stuff.

What good furniture stores are in northern Virginia?

Posted on February 13th, 2010 by admin

I am moving soon, just about all of my current furniture is going to end up at Goodwill (pretty much all I will keep is this computer desk & printer stand). Some of the furniture is over 20 yrs old – I am 27 so I’ve had a lot of it all my life & I am sick of the stuff I have even though it is not falling apart.
Anyways, I have not lived in northern Virginia long enough to really know where good furniture stores can be found or what the names even are.
I’ll be living in Fairfax soon after I get out of Falls Church. I am going to be getting a new bedroom, living room & dining room set. Price is not too much of an issue but I want to keep it within reason.

IKEA, BROTHER!!!

How can I stop my cockatoo from destroying all my furniture?

Posted on February 13th, 2010 by admin

I have a 2 years old umbrella cockatoo. He is great. It’s totally incapable of bitting a human being, he is very carefull as to where he "DROPS" (like he would only go on the floor not on a human or any furniture), and he speaks quiet a few words.

But I cant get him to stop chewing all my furniture. I have had him for 4 months now and he has partially destroyed or damage about $9000.00 of furniture, starting with dining room table and chairs, dining room display case, etc…. And now my leather sofas.

If I leave him on the cage he will screams so i can take him out, and when I do, then i have to supervise him at all times because the minute I look away he is bitting something. He knows when I watch him, and 10 seconds after I0 look the other way he starts chewing. Its like a game for him I think. What can i do?

I’m afraid the bird likes to chew, unless you want to cover your entire house in something foul smelling/tasting (or perspex), I suggest a bird playground.
Find a little used area of your home, then decorate with wood, branches, treats, toys, anything you know he likes.
To give you an idea what I mean, here’s a few examples –

I’ve tried to show you a range of different sizes, the important thing is to keep messing with it, change the toys, move stuff about, have fun.

If I plan on moving to another country what should I take with me? How do I ship a lot of things over?

Posted on February 13th, 2010 by admin

Obviously the bare necessities like clothes, razor, labtop (if I get one). Where do I find a AC converter to whatever power supply Europeans use?Like an American toaster probably doesn’t use the same amount of voltage or current that they use so it would probably overload or burn out. If I have books, movies, furniture and lots of personal stuff does this often get lost or stolen when shipped overseas? Is there a way they send it over maybe on a cargo plane? What company would transport this stuff and how would I go about contacting them and having my stuff shipped?

Just do a websearch and enter "international movers"…there are many. But, I think you wil find it costs so much, that unless your company is paying for the move, you will want to just take personal stuff and buy houseold things there. Check someplace like Radio Shack for converters. Hope you hear from people who have done this so you get some really good info. I moved to Mexico and brought darn little. i know people who spent more than their furniture was worth to move it…makes no sense.
