What stores in boston sell furniture that is affordable but not too cheap?

Posted on January 27th, 2010 by admin

I’m looking to buy furniture in Boston that is a step up from IKEA’s prices/quality, but all I’ve found are stores that have nice stuff that is way too expensive, or huge chain stores that are really ugly. Any suggestions for non-modern, low to mid-range furniture stores? I’m especially looking for wooden book cases.

Craigslist is a good resource. Lots of the time when people move out they plan terribly and end up leaving crap all over the place.

Does it have to be wooden? There’s the ContainerStore.com

Good luck!

What do you call furniture that is made out of compressed sawdust?

Posted on January 21st, 2010 by admin

I know that there is a special term for that type of furniture, but I can’t remember what it is. 10 points for the first correct answer.
It’s not called big junk wood. I want serious answers, not absurd names.

Particle board or your right pressed sawdust. Now I pay a little more money and buy real wood. I had a dresser down the basement and the dampness ruined it.

How do I become a furniture designer?

Posted on January 21st, 2010 by admin

I graduated in 2006 with a BFA in Photography, but I want to go into furniture design. I’m having trouble finding schools that offer this, or even deciding if I should go back to school. How do I find a school? How do I get an internship? Or just a job? How can I contact current designers? Are there any resources out there?

Secluded and charming European beach get away on a budget?

Posted on January 21st, 2010 by admin

My girlfriend and I are looking for a relaxing European (or slightly further a field if bargains are to be had) get away for a few days in April and I’m looking for ideas on where to go.

What I would like:

Quiet and secluded
Idyllic beautiful scenery
Local culture
Good local and reasonably priced food
Simple bars with good wine/ cold beer

My ideal day will involved breakfast with a few people milling around
A stroll to a quite beach for some relaxing in the sun and sea
and afternoon bike ride
Simple restaurant overlooking the sea with maybe 20 other guests

Repeat as necessary till sufficiently relaxed.

I want to avoid like the plague:

Strips of cheesy bars
Anything that attracts anything remotely like a stag or hen party
Crowds of people sitting on rows of plastic furniture eating ‘English Breakfast’ from ‘Joe’s English Pub’

I was looking at Malta but saw a few videos on youtube and was really under whelmed by what I saw. We are running to a tight budget so the likes of the Maldives although very appealing are completely out of the question.

I’m 26 and my girlfriend older but I’m more Radio 4 than club 18-30….

Any help and ideas much appreciated.

What course should I take for furniture making?

Posted on January 17th, 2010 by admin

I’d like to learn how to make furnitures like sofa, cabinets. Is interior design the right course for that? If not, what course should I take. It sounds like a vocational course, but I hope you can tell me a professional course related to that. thanks.

a strongly related area to that would be ‘woodworking’ _the stuff you said is advanced so perhaps ‘advanced woodworking’

How can I tell what kind of wood my bedroom furniture is made of?

Posted on January 17th, 2010 by admin

It was made in 1990 by Stanley Furniture, and on the headboard it has 5414155 stamped on it. I am trying to buy a full headboard/footboard to match because I bought it with a twin size. Help!

You can try their web site. There was nothing found with the number you provided, but maybe if you browse the collections, you may find your set. Good luck.

how do I go about finding a major furniture co. to buy the rights to my furniture designs?

Posted on January 17th, 2010 by admin

I have over 100 designs of mirrored covered furniture that has never been seen. I have created other designs that are at market and have never been paid. How do I avoid this mistake again. Can someone please refer me to a honest furniture maker that won’t rip me off.

Did you try getting a patent on your designs?

Posted on January 17th, 2010 by admin

need sofa, loveseat, (or 2 chairs) bookshelves. they need to to be in good condition .i live in the auglaize county ohio area. waiting for respones.

Try Freecycle.com! I got a free table and chairs from being a member. Also, depending on where you live, in Kenosha, WI people put furniture out on the side of the road that they don’t want anymore and some of it is in good shape.
