What are the most used CAD softwares within european interior/furniture/product designers?

Posted on April 9th, 2010 by admin

Hello, I am pretty new to the industry and i am trying to invest my time and money in good training sessions for the most used Cad softwarse in order for me to find a good job very quickly. I found many " consumer level easy-to-use softwares" but I believe that these ones do not have a very good reputation and not even considered by professional firms. Aiming to desing interiors/furniture/products this is my choice. What do you guys think?

Vectorworks 2010
Rhino or solidworks?
Photoshop
Google sketchup

Also Not sure about Viacad by punch and Archiline xp 2010.

Thanks guys

S : )

vectorworks and solidworks are mainly used for Specialist i know some people used them in there master degree so if you can learn to use them it will be so useful but photo-shop and google sketch-up can be used by lots of people and very easy to be used….

i recommend that you use Vectorworks it has some good products for design, machine design and architectural design….

How do you remove furniture polish from a tv screen?

Posted on April 5th, 2010 by admin

My neighbors son got a hold of some furniture polish and got it on the tv screen. :( What can be used to remove the grime/smear of furniture polish?
Thank you!

Windex or any window cleaner that contains ammonia will do te job. If the tv is a flat screen, there is a special cleaner to use on it. This cleaner can be found at Wal Mart in the Electronics Dept. There’s a special cloth to use on a flat screen, so buy one if it doesn’t come with the cleaner. If it’s just a regular tv screen, window cleaner will cut through the polish.

Black bedroom furniture and white walls, any suggestions?

Posted on April 3rd, 2010 by admin

My bedroom furniture is black. I would like to add some color to my white walls. Any suggestions on what colors go well with black furniture? I don’t want anything that will make my room look really dark (like red) because my furniture is already black. Thanks in advance.

Is anyone a designer? What do you design and how did you get started?

Posted on March 30th, 2010 by admin

I’d really like to be a designer of clocks, decor, furniture, and maybe even jewelry. I’d like to be sorta like the next Howard Miller. I get all googly eyed looking at that stuff.

I’m not famous yet, but the first thing that made me get started was when I was eight I helped my aunt sew a pillow. I didn’t think anything of it until seventh grade – I had been sewing stuff before then but just stuff that had a ripped and stuff that needed fixing- seventh grade I got this bright pink shirt for christmas it was really cute but it was uncomfortable to wear because of the neck line, so I cut it off. I started at the inner shoulder and cut to the other side. Now it is a fall of the shoulder kinda of shirt and I wear it with a black halter button up shirt. and long necklaces. :)

Fabric for furniture – how much do I need?

Posted on March 26th, 2010 by admin

I just bought three pieces that look very similar to those listed below. I have found some fabric that I like and I want to purchase and take to my upholsterer, but I don’t know how much I need.

Items are as follows:

1. Settee: http://www.wisteria.com/Linen-European-Furniture-Natural-Linen-Settee/productinfo/W2506/

My actual settee measurements are 50"w x 21"d x 39"h. There is also fabric across the back of the settee.

2. I have two armchairs that look like these:
http://www.wisteria.com/Louis-XVI-Chair-Dining/productinfo/W4076/

I don’t have the exact measurments with me for the chairs, but I am just doing the seat and the oval front. I already have different fabric for the oval back.

3. I bought a bench that looks like this:
http://www.wisteria.com/Louis-XVI-Banquette-Bench-New/productinfo/W3944/

My measurements are 44"w x 15"d x 21"h

Can you please tell me how much fabric I would need for each of these pieces in order to reupholster?

Thanks so much!

A lot of the yardage will depend on what kind of fabric you bought, it’s width and whether it has a distinct nap or directional pattern or a design that has to be matched. Also, there are bindings that will have to be cut, probably on the bias.

Why don’t you provide this information to your upholsterer instead of fishing on here? He or she is most qualitied to do this and could tell you almost immediately from the photos and dimensions what will be needed. They won’t charge you for an estimate, for goodness sake! In fact, most upholsterers will not guarantee that they can complete a job unless they are the ones who tell you how much fabric to provide

No offense, but I am often puzzled why people ask questions on here when they should properly be asking the people who they are going to be hiring to do the work.

I’m an electrician and I certainly would not want to show up to do someones job and have them tell me "some guy on Yahoo Answers told me this is how much wire I should buy for you to do the job." Do you understand what I mean?

Where is the best placement for certain furniture pieces in my bedroom?

Posted on March 19th, 2010 by admin

I am a teenage girl who is tired of her bedroom furniture arrangement.
I can’t ever find a good spot to place my bed, television, and computer desk.
My room is pretty big and I have plenty of room to put them anywhere.
My door & closet are on the West side of my room.
Can you help? (:
Thanks

Center your bed with the headboard against the wall then place the tv/stand on the wall across from the footboard and the desk in the corner.
